The Monopolies Commission monitors the concentration of companies in Germany and informs the Federal Government and the general public of its findings.
In addition, it advises the Federal Government and legislative bodies on individual case decisions or amendments to national law.
For this purpose, it prepares an expert opinion (so-called “main opinion”) every two years and so-called special opinions on specific issues at irregular intervals.
The Monopolies Commission works independently and consists of five members with specialised knowledge in the fields of economics, business administration, socio-politics, technology or commercial law. They are appointed by the Federal President at the proposal of the Federal Government.
